NEW YORK, without doubt one of my favourite cities, never ceases to astonish. As a fervent fan of all things seafood, I was amazed to discover a truly fantastic oyster bar buried in the vaulted shopping precinct below the architectural marvel that is Grand Central Station.
The 440 seat Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant started serving New York’s freshest oysters way back in 1913, when President Woodrow Wilson was in the White House. This was the same year that Grand Central Station opened. Since then, the restaurant has changed hands a few times and has certainly had its ups and downs, but today it serves a truly fantastic range of the East coast’s finest oysters and clams.
It is no surprise that the restaurant claims to have countless regular customers who come back time and again to sample some of their 25 to 30 varieties of oysters. My trips to NYC now always include a visit to the restaurant; great prices, great food and great ambiance will certainly bring me back time and gain.
